Position Description:

*** this position has been closed. ***

Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) develops educational opportunities for many of the most eager students in the world.  Since 2003, we have trained tens of thousands of the country’s top students, including nearly all the members of the US International Math Olympiad team, through our online school, learning centers, textbooks, and online learning systems. Over the years, our international online community of advanced problem solvers has grown to nearly 700,000 members. While our primary focus has been math for most of our history, we have started expanding into new subjects, such as language arts, science, and computer science.

At AoPS, we believe that students learn best by working through challenging problems that present students with opportunities to develop problem-solving and critical reasoning skills through productive struggle and creative thinking. Our goal is for students to build a deep conceptual understanding of mathematics through grappling with why mathematics works.

We seek curriculum developers to join our Beast Academy Curriculum team and help us shape innovative and engaging mathematical learning opportunities for motivated students in elementary and lower middle school.

We are looking for candidates to help us advance our Beast Academy Curriculum by:

  • Creating lessons and puzzles for our Beast Academy Practice books and Beast Academy Online.
  • Creating lessons, games, puzzles, and videos to build Beast Academy Level 1.
  • Developing a more adaptive Beast Academy Online experience.
  • Launching new features in Beast Academy Online. Some upcoming projects include implementing read aloud, building "The Gym" (a math drill center), and creating a review system.
  • Designing and improving interactive Beast Academy lesson plans for AoPS Academy in-person classes.
  • Adapting our Beast Academy lessons for our remote-learning AoPS Academy Virtual Campus classes.

Other recent projects our curriculum team has worked on include:

  • Designing fun and challenging pen-and-paper puzzles that help teach problem-solving skills while reinforcing key concepts
  • Designing interactive digital puzzles that offer students an extra challenge as part of Beast Academy Online
  • Building Beast Academy Playground: a collection of fun, thought-provoking games, activities, and videos that families can play together to explore math concepts, practice logical thinking, and nurture curiosity

You might be a good fit for this position if...

  • You’ve built a passion for math through teaching or doing mathematics, and are eager to share this with motivated elementary school students.
  • You’re excited about helping students grapple with and enrich their understanding of mathematical ideas through creating cognitively demanding math tasks.
  • You’ve participated in or helped out with a math classroom, math team, math camp, math festival, or math circle, and enjoyed your experience there - a plus if that experience is at the elementary level.
  • You have strong mathematical foundations up to the pre-algebra level or beyond.
