The Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Science at Tübingen University invites applications for the position of

Assistant Professor (W1) of Mathematical Methods of Quantum Theory

The position is due to commence on October 1, 2021.

In particular, methodological connections to areas of mathematical analysis, such as spectral theory, the calculus of variations or probability theory, are desired. Willingness to acquire competitive third-party funding and to participate in joint third-party funded projects both within the Department of Mathematics and in interdisciplinary or cross-location alliances is expected. The position comes with responsibilities in teaching, specifically pertaining to the university’s master's program in mathematical physics and to undergraduate mathematical education, as well as moderate responsibilities in academic self-administration such as committee service.

The position is initially limited to four years, with the possibility of extension by a further two years after a positive interim evaluation. Detailed information on the criteria underlying the interim and final evaluations may be found in our guidelines for review under the following link:

Required qualifications include an outstanding doctorate in a pertinent field, recognizable potential for internationally acclaimed publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals, and teaching experience.

The University of Tübingen is particularly interested in increasing the number of women in research and teaching and therefore strongly encourages women candidates to apply. In line with its internationalization agenda, the university welcomes applications from researchers outside Germany.

Applications from equally qualified candidates with disabilities will be given preference. Applications with supporting documents (cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications and teaching experience, diplomas/certificates) as well as a teaching statement and a research statement including collaboration plans, along with the completed application form (https://uni-tuebingen.de/en/faculties/faculty-of-science/faculty/service-downloads/#c608746) should be sent by e-mail as a single PDF-file (max 10 MB) to the Dean of the Faculty of Science, University of Tübingen, Germany (to the e-mail address: elena.kabagema-bilan@uni-tuebingen.de) by May 7, 2021.
