Assistant/Associate Professor in Geometry, Dynamics, and Learning

Division of Mathematical Sciences, School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences,
NTU Singapore

A research-intensive public university, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) has 33,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Engineering, Business, Science, Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences, and Graduate colleges. It also has a medical school, the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, established jointly with Imperial College London.

NTU is also home to world-class autonomous institutes – the National Institute of Education, S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Earth Observatory of Singapore, and Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering – and various leading research centres such as the Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute (NEWRI) and Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N).

Ranked amongst the world’s top universities by QS, NTU has also been named the world’s top young university for the past seven years. The University’s main campus is frequently listed among the Top 15 most beautiful university campuses in the world and has 57 Green Mark-certified (equivalent to LEED-certified) buildings, of which 95% are certified Green Mark Platinum.

Apart from its main campus, NTU also has a campus in Novena, Singapore’s healthcare district. Under the NTU Smart Campus vision, the University harnesses the power of digital technology and tech-enabled solutions to support better learning and living experiences, the discovery of new knowledge, and the sustainability of resources.

In association with the creation of a new Centre in Geometry, Dynamics, and Learning (CGDL), we have an opening for a member of faculty to join NTU at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. This Centre is envisioned to foster the development of new methods coming from Geometry, Topology, Dynamical Systems, and Stochastics for the solution of problems in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Mechanical Control, Shape Analysis, and Robotics. NTU provides a rich environment for interdisciplinary collaborations in these areas, including the Robotics Research Centre and the Computational Intelligence research lab at the School of Computer Science and Engineering. Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or closely related fields. This position may be held jointly between the School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences and the School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering. Areas and priorities that we wish to develop and support through this appointment include:
  • Mathematical foundations of learning theory and artificial intelligence
  • Topological and geometric data analysis
  • Mathematical modeling methods for mechanical systems, robotics, time series analysis, and forecasting
  • Numerical and stochastic methods for applications in mechanics, financial econometrics, and/or the biomedical sciences
  • Machine learning of dynamical processes
  • Numerical methods for mechanical systems, variational integrators
  • High dimensional methods and numerics for nonlinear systems
The College of Science seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit on the basis of merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability.
