Position Description:    

Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) develops educational opportunities for many of the most eager students in the world.  Since 2003, we have trained tens of thousands of the country’s top students, including nearly all the members of the US International Math Olympiad team, through our online school, learning centers, textbooks, and online learning systems. Over the years, our international online community of advanced problem solvers has grown to nearly 700,000 members. While our primary focus has been math for most of our history, we have started expanding into new subjects, such as language arts, science, and computer science.

Our AoPS Academy: Virtual Campus is seeking a new Math Director to oversee math instruction and supervise the work of math instructional coaches and instructors. This position reports to the Director of the AoPS Academy Virtual Campus.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Manage a team of dedicated math educators
  • Lead the hiring, training, and professional development of teachers
  • Supervise the staffing of math classes
  • Constantly monitor the effectiveness of educational services and propose innovative ways to improve our curriculum and instruction
  • Teach 1 or 2 classes to remain connected to the classroom
  • Substitute for classes when needed
  • Address major issues brought up by customers
  • Plan and execute in conjunction with operations, curriculum, marketing, and other company teams

Preferred/Required Skills and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in math or a related field required. Advanced degrees preferred.
  • Highly skilled and experienced in teaching at the K-12 levels
  • Strong pedagogical content knowledge in math
  • Experience in leading a team of educators
  • Knowledgeable of a variety of educational technologies
  • Fast adapter to new operational or educational technologies
  • Creative and efficient in solving novel problems
  • Big picture thinker capable of growing a business


This 40 hour a week full-time position will require some non-traditional work hours. Most of our year-round classes occur between 1-6pm PT on weekdays and Sunday daytime. There will also be summer camp classes scheduled during weekday mornings.
