Job Opening Lecturer/Assistant Professor of Mathematics

Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI), a leading international institution of higher education and research based in Morocco is recruiting for a number of positions to support the growth of students, and the expansion of Computing and Engineering programs under the School of Science and Engineering.

ABOUT AUI

Al Akhawayn University (AUI) is an independent, not-for-profit, co-educational, Moroccan university with a globally oriented, English-language, liberal arts curriculum based on the American system. The university is composed of three schools: School of Business Administration, School of Science and Engineering and School of Social Sciences and Humanities. The University has approximately 2400 undergraduate and graduate level students in a residential campus environment. The main campus of the University is located in Ifrane (see short description below), a resort town in the Middle Atlas Mountains approximately 60km from the Imperial cities of Fes and Meknes. There are approximately 140 faculty members; about 40% of whom are international. The University is accredited by the New England Commission on Higher Education (NECHE).

Al Akhawayn University’s current actions follow the orientations of a 5 year strategic plan (2020-2025) with eight priorities that aim, among other things, to (i) position AUI as a BEACON for Liberal Arts education for emerging 21st century challenges, (ii) make student success a central matter, (iii) excel in the execution of its vision, and (iv) leverage the collective intelligence of its constituents for a strong shared governance.

Completely modern and networked, the University is co-educational, residential, and primarily undergraduate, but has rapidly developing graduate programs. The outlook is international, and tolerance is promoted and expected of students, staff, and faculty members belonging to over 25 nationalities all living and working together.

Faculty is composed of 140 full-time members, most of them hold doctoral degrees, and 30 part-time exceptionally qualified professionals. 60% of faculty members are Moroccan, a number of whom have dual citizenship, and the other 40% represent over 12 different nationalities.

The student body recently expanded to almost 2400 with the opening of new off campus facilities. Over the last 10 years, there has been a consistently balanced student population of fifty percent female and fifty percent male. Throughout the years and up until the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic there were over 160 students of 25 different nationalities on campus, in study abroad and exchange programs during the regular semester, or attending the intensive Arabic and North African Studies summer programs.

AUI operates two 16-week semesters that run late August to mid-December, and mid- January to mid-May. There is currently one 7-week summer session that is from early June to late July. Summer is the busiest time for conferences, visitors, and special groups.

AUI has a student/faculty ratio of about 14 students for each faculty member. All full-time faculty members maintain a minimum of nine office hours per week for easy access by students. With an average of 28 students in each class, there are many opportunities for questions and interaction between students and professors.
