The Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics at Umeå University, Sweden, invites applications for a tenure-track position in statistical learning. We especially welcome applicants who work in non-convex inference and learning. The position comes with a large recruitment package including one PhD student, two postdocs, and discretionary funds of 60 000 SEK yearly. The position is funded by Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems, and Software Program (WASP; www.wasp-sweden.org). The position is open to applicants with a PhD in Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, or a closely related subject awarded no more than about five years ago, with exemptions made for applicants with extended periods of parental leave, sick leave, etc. The applicant should contribute to the build-up of the research environment on mathematics for AI, with focus on statistical learning, and supervise PhD students and postdocs. The description of the applicant's intended research will be given great significance in the evaluation process. You are eventually expected to create a new research group, while engaging in WASP's graduate school, WASP national meetings and other activities. You are also expected to actively engage in applying for external research funding. Umeå offers excellent working and living conditions. The successful applicant would typically have to teach 1-2 courses per year and supervise 1-2 masters theses. The remaining time can be used freely for independent research and competence development. The working environment is international and very family friendly, as exemplified by a generous allotment of 480 days paid parental leave for each child.
