Mathematics Education, Renewable Term Position

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Oklahoma (OU) is seeking to strengthen its First-Year Mathematics program. OU is experiencing an exciting multi-year period of growth that is in part fueled by its noteworthy retention of incoming students. We are looking for candidates who understand the balance of meeting the needs of incoming students while maintaining academic excellence. We encourage dynamic and innovative individuals to apply for a full-time, one year lecturer position beginning August 2021.

For this position, normal duties consist of teaching the equivalent of 24 credits per year and rendering service to the department, university, and profession. Additional work, including evenings, would be expected to help with tutoring and review sessions run through the Mathematics Help Center


Expectations 

Requirements for the successful candidate include:

·         an earned Master’s degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education

·         a record of exemplary teaching either:

o   post-secondary mathematics courses at the 1000-level (courses ranging from College Algebra to Precalculus but also credit-bearing courses aimed at first-year students not pursuing STEM fields, such as Business Precalculus or Calculus) or

o   secondary mathematics courses covering the same content

Other desirable qualities of candidates include, but are not limited to:

·        an earned PhD in Mathematics or Mathematics Education

         documented excellence in teaching, both in-person and online

·         experience serving as an instructor in courses that are coordinated

·         tutoring in a mathematics help center or mathematics tutoring center

·         willingness and ability to use a variety of digital resources in instruction and assessment (e.g., course learning management platforms, graphing calculators, online homework systems, online grading systems)

·         experience teaching courses in large sections (from 70 to 250)

·         experience using active learning and collaborative learning in instruction

·         interest and experience in research in undergraduate mathematics education
