The Department of Mathematics at Johns Hopkins University seeks candidates for a hybrid position combining the responsibilities of a Lecturer and a computer systems administrator. The teaching load will be one course per semester. In addition, the successful candidate will serve as the department's internal IT administrator. IT responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: serving as a liaison with school/university IT, assisting faculty and the editorial staff of the American Journal of Mathematics with hardware- and software-related issues, maintaining departmental web-based homework systems, and creating websites for conferences/events. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in the mathematical sciences or mathematics education, and teaching experience commensurate with the title of Lecturer. Candidates should also have experience with Unix systems, the ability to undertake small scripting projects in a language such as Python or perl, expertise with typesetting in LaTeX, and familiarity with at least one mathematics software system such as Matlab or SageMath. Our intention, contingent on performance during an initial review period, is for this to be a long-term hire. The position is benefits-eligible, including JHU's excellent college tuition benefit for dependent children.

To apply, please submit a cover letter specific to this position, along with a curriculum vitae and teaching dossier. The dossier should at a minimum include a teaching statement and sample class materials. Please also arrange the submission of three letters of recommendation, at least one of which addresses your teaching experience, and at least one of which addresses your preparation for the IT aspects of the position. Consideration of applications will begin on September 1, 2021, and will continue on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Applications are welcomed as long as the position remains unfilled.
