Position description

The National Science Foundation has granted the UC Merced Department of Applied Mathematics a five-year award to establish the Data-Intensive Research And Computing (DIRAC) Research Training Group (RTG) focused on the theme of Computational and Data-Enabled Sciences. Four different SMaRT teams constitute this RTG: (i) Energy and the Environment, (ii) Mathematical Biology, (iii) Imaging and Sensing, and (iv) Scientific Computing. The UC Merced Department of Applied Mathematics invites applications for two Postdoctoral Researchers for AY 2022-2023. One position is for the DIRAC-RTG SMaRT team (i) Energy and the Environment. The other position is for DIRAC-RTG SMaRT team (iv) Scientific Computing, including Data Sciences. This 3-year position requires the successful candidate to conduct research and teach 1 course each semester during the academic year. Postdoctoral researchers (PRs) play a vital role in the DIRAC-RTG, and through it will launch their own careers. We anticipate that by the end of their training, Postdoctoral Researchers will have developed: (i) a well-defined, independent, and interdisciplinary research program, (ii) advanced oral and written communication skills, (iii) the ability to mentor students in research, and for those who plan on pursuing a career in academia, (iv) a professional teaching portfolio.
