At the time of hiring, candidates are expected to have a doctoral degree in actuarial science or closely related areas, such as financial mathematics, probability, statistics, or data science. Having obtained (or close to obtaining) status of Associate of either the Society of Actuaries or the Casualty Actuarial Society would be a strong asset. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, show potential for scholarly activities in actuarial science, and direct student research projects. The primary teaching responsibility of the candidate is advanced level actuarial science courses, probability, and the theory of interest. The candidate is also expected to teach undergraduate mathematics courses if need rises. ABDs nearing completion can be considered at the instructor level.
