The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Sam Houston State University seeks applications for the position of Department Chair, beginning in the 2022 – 2023 academic year. We seek candidates with a sustained, exemplary record of scholarship and teaching, an active agenda for promoting scholarly research among department faculty, a passion for student success in core math courses serving the greater university community, and demonstrated leadership and administrative abilities. Candidates should be tenurable in the Department at the rank of Full Professor. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. While applicants from all areas of the mathematical sciences (including mathematics, statistics, and mathematics education) are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to candidates with the Ph.D. degree in Mathematics. This is a full-time tenured position. The chair is expected to oversee development and evaluation of curriculum and degree programs; conduct departmental administrative duties; be an advocate for faculty and programs; recruit undergraduate and graduate students; represent the department, college, and university; adhere to and maintain accreditation standards; foster excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service among the faculty; and complete other relevant duties. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of sustained commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Sam Houston State University is a comprehensive public

of Houston. The university has an enrollment of 21,679 students. The Carnegie
Commission on Higher Education classifies SHSU as a “Doctoral Research

has named the university a “Great College to Work For.” The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 28 tenured
or tenure-track faculty in mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics.
The BA, BS, and MS degrees are offered in Mathematics. In addition, the MA
degree is offered in Mathematics Education. The MS degree is offered in
Statistics, along with Statistics minors at the undergraduate level. The
department is actively involved in undergraduate research and developing
innovative teaching methods that encourage students to be more actively engaged
