Interested in using your skills to advance understanding of viral evolution and immunology? We have lots of hard questions and a supportive environment in which you can pivot to biomedical data science, a field full of opportunities in academia and industry. Our group is full of ex-math and ex-physics researchers, so we speak your language.
Some current projects:
reconstructing and modeling evolutionary histories in the densely-sampled regime (e.g. SARS-CoV-2)
integrating measurements and predictions of protein function into models of antibody affinity maturation
developing modern machine-learning approaches to Bayesian phylogenetic inference
The group is well funded by the NIH and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

The Matsen group at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has open postdoc positions to develop and apply new methods for Bayesian phylogenetic inference, as well as to develop new models and methods for analyzing viral and adaptive immune receptor data.
Join a lab:
- that provides a collaborative environment with strong statisticians, mathematicians, as well as staff programmers to accelerate your research
- with a great track record of placing trainees in tenure-track positions, as well as in industry
- with opportunities for advancement for people who want to stay
- that is housed in a great central location in the beautiful city of Seattle
We have a number of other positions open, including bioinformatics and project manager positions, so bring your ideas and don't hesitate to get in touch, whatever your career level! HHMI is an Equal Opportunity Employer. |
