POSITION TITLE: Tenure-Track Faculty in Computational Mathematics

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) at the Colorado School of Mines (Mines) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Computational Mathematics. Qualified candidates with research specialization in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply: high-performance scientific computing, scientific machine learning, numerical solution of (stochastic) PDEs, computational linear algebra, and applications to scientific and engineering modeling, such as computational fluid dynamics, computational chemistry or computational materials science, as well as applications to geostatistics and other problems of societal relevance that address earth and environmental sciences. A faculty member successful in this position will be able to provide undergraduate and graduate students with a world-class educational experience, while conducting cutting edge research and meaningful service contributions. RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop a research program with international stature and scholary recognition through publications and other modes of disseminating ideas. Develop a robust portfolio of externally funded support for research and training. Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Develop and deliver course materials to undergraduate and graduate students in traditional, hybrid, and online platforms demonstrating teaching excellence and high-impact scholarship. Contribute both institutionally and professionally through active service. Cultivate and promote an inclusive and diverse Mines community through recruiting, mentorship, collaboration, and service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in Computational Mathematics or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the time the appointment begins. Assistant Professor candidates must possess 0-5 years of post-Ph.D. experience in academic, research lab, and/or industry experience and accomplishments in a related field. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and teamwork skills. Demonstrated track record and/or commitment to diversity, access, and inclusion efforts. Track record of interdisciplinary collaboration across at least two fields.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Successful record of teaching and research obtained via academic research, college-level teaching and/or industry or national lab experience. Demonstrated record of research publications in archival journals and conference proceedings. Demonstrated success in securing externally funded grants/contracts for those applying at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT AND MINES: The Applied Mathematics and Statistics Department currently has 12 teaching faculty members and 12.4 tenured/tenure track faculty members spanning expertise in computational and applied mathematics as well as statistics. At present, the Department enrollment is approximately 145 undergraduate and 50 graduate students. The Department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, all with a specialization in Computational and Applied Mathematics or Statistics. The Department is also a major contributor to an interdisciplinary Master’s degree in Data Science, interdisciplinary M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Operations Research with Engineering, and interdisciplinary M.S. and PhD. Degrees in Quantitative Biology and Engineering.

Colorado School of Mines is located in picturesque Golden, at the foothills of the Rockies, 15 miles west of Denver and 20 miles south of Boulder. Mines was ranked the No. 4 best engineering college in the United States by Money Magazine in 2020. PAY RANGE:

Mines is offering total annual compensation range of: $87,900 - $93,900.00
