POSITION TITLE: Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow - Applied Mathematics and Statistics

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado invites applications for a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship position to begin (subject to availability) in August 2022. The position is a two-year appointment (based upon satisfactory performance in the classroom) that can be renewed by the department for an additional year.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow is expected to teach 16-19 credits (4-6 courses) per year. While the primary teaching responsibilities will be in the core mathematics sequence (Calculus I, II, III and Differential Equations), there will also be an opportunity to teach outside of the core curriculum (Intro to Prob/Stat, Intro to Scientific Computing, Linear Algebra, Intro to Proofs). Each postdoc is assigned a teaching mentor from the AMS faculty who guides the fellow in professional development as an educator. Postdocs will collaborate with AMS faculty in the improvement and delivery of core courses with an emphasis on active learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position is intended for recent PhD candidates. Applicants must possess a PhD in mathematics, statistics, or related field by August 2022. Applicants must have experience in teaching mathematics at the collegiate level.

Mines is a public research university devoted to the applied sciences and engineering and located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, 15 miles west of downtown Denver and 20 miles south of Boulder. Mines has the highest admission standards of any university in Colorado and the AMS department confers Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degrees in applied mathematics and statistics as well as provides foundational mathematics courses for all other Mines majors. The AMS Department at Mines is a diverse and collegial cohort of 25 faculty members, split almost evenly between research faculty and teaching faculty. Research interests within the department are broad, varied and frequently interdisciplinary in nature, including mathematical biology, mathematical geosciences, environmental and spatial statistics, scientific computing, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. PAY RANGE:

Mines is offering academic year compensation in the range of: $53,000 - $61,000
