Position Description:    

General Summary

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Eastern Michigan University invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the level of assistant professor, beginning August 2022.

Eastern Michigan University, with an enrollment of around 15,000 students, is located in Ypsilanti, adjacent to Ann Arbor and 30 miles west of Detroit.

The Mathematics and Statistics Department has 18 full-time faculty members and offers undergraduate programs in mathematics, mathematics education, actuarial science, and statistics.  In addition, we have graduate programs at the Master’s level in mathematics and in applied statistics.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Duties will include teaching of both undergraduate and graduate courses, curriculum development, advising, supervision of undergraduate and graduate student research, and departmental and professional service.   The standard teaching load is 9 to 12 credit hours per semester.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in the mathematical sciences (or scheduled completion by August, 2022) is required.

The department is seeking candidates with a strong background in any area of mathematics or statistics.

Preference will be given to applicants who specialize in pure mathematics or in mathematical statistics.

Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching, have excellent communication skills, have the ability to contribute to department governance and university service, and maintain an active research program.

Preference will be given to applicants whose research is amenable to student collaboration.
