Position title: Postdoctoral Scholar - Applied and Computational Mathematics 
Percent time: 100 
Anticipated start: March 01, 2022 but no later than June 30, 2022 
Position duration: The position is for one (1) year with possibility of renewal for additional years, up to three (3) years in total based on performance and funding availability.

POSITION DESCRIPTION 

The Department of Mathematics at University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for two postdoctoral positions broadly in the area of applied and computational mathematics. Candidates are expected to have expertise in at least one of the following areas: analysis of electronic structure models, multiscale modeling, tensor networks, or quantum physics. Candidates with physics, chemistry, or materials science backgrounds who have extensive experience in terms of method development are also welcome. The positions permit the teaching of two under/graduate courses during the academic year in the appropriate teaching title. 
Postdoctoral Scholar appointments are intended to provide a full-time training program of advanced academic preparation and research training under the mentorship of a faculty member.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Basic qualifications (required at time of application) 
At a minimum, applicants must have completed all requirements for PhD (or equivalent) in Math or a related field, except the dissertation (or equivalent) at time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
PhD is required by time of appointment 

Preferred qualifications 
The candidate is expected to have a good knowledge of numerical method development, with expertise in at least one of the following areas: analysis of quantum mechanical models, multiscale modeling, numerical eigenvalue problems, tensor networks, quantum physics, materials science and or physics, chemistry, or materials science backgrounds with extensive experience in terms of method development as evidenced by: high quality publications in top journals, strong reference letters indicating research independence and creativity of contributions to the field, and research distinctions and/or awards.
