The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at St. Mary’s College of Maryland invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Computer Science beginning August 2022. A successful applicant will be an outstanding teacher with a commitment to attracting and retaining students from underrepresented groups (including women). The new hire will be able to teach a wide range of undergraduate computer science courses, and be dedicated to the liberal arts tradition. The successful candidate will help to further develop the curriculum in Computer Science at St. Mary’s. The teaching load is three courses per semester. We seek candidates with a commitment to maintaining an active research program with the potential to involve undergraduates. We particularly seek candidates with expertise in one of the following: Data Analysis, Data Visualization, Machine Learning, and Computational Statistics. This is one of two positions for which the department is hiring.

We are located in St. Mary's City, 70 miles southeast of Washington, D.C. Qualifications - Applicants should have expertise in an area of computer science or related fields that addresses data problems, and hold a Masters or Ph.D. in computer science, computer science education, or a related mathematical field at the time of appointment. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and proof of COVID-19 vaccination; medical and religious exemptions will be considered.
