The
College of Charleston Department of Mathematics invites applicants for an
instructor position beginning August 2022. Applicants must possess at least a
master’s degree in a mathematical science by the employment start date. Duties
primarily include 12 hours per semester teaching statistics, college algebra,
pre-calculus and/or calculus, advising students, professional development in
pedagogies that increase success in these courses, serving on department
committees, and participating in the annual math meet. Since teaching is the
primary responsibility of the position, a record of and potential for
excellence in teaching mathematics is the most important component for ranking
candidates. Since professional development and service are important and necessary
responsibilities of the position, potential in these areas also factor into a
candidate’s ranking. A
complete application must contain a cover letter, curriculum vita, teaching
philosophy, current and projected professional development related to teaching,
and at least three letters of recommendation addressing teaching. Questions
regarding the position can be directed to Dr. Elizabeth Jurisich, search
committee chair, at jurisiche@cofc.edu. This is a nine-month appointment;
salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The
review of applications will begin immediately and applications will be
considered until the position is filled. The
