Charles University invites applications for an assistant professor position in the field of mathematical modelling/numerical mathematics/high performance computing. Starting date is negotiable, preferably 1st September 2022.
Workspace description The position opens at the Mathematical Institute of Charles University in the group of Mathematical modelling http://mod.karlin.mff.cuni.cz . The group focuses on mathematical modelling in continuum thermodynamics, and it covers various aspects of mathematical modelling workflow – design of mathematical models, mathematical analysis of the corresponding nonlinear partial differential equations and numerical solution thereof. (Examples of materials of interest are non-Newtonian fluids, inelastic solids and mixtures.) The group is closely linked to the world-renowned group of matrix analysis (Krylov methods), which is based at the same faculty. Foreign research partners of the mathematical modelling group are among others Department of Mechanical Engineering, Texas A&M University and Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford. Concerning computational resources the faculty maintains its own computational cluster and has access to the Czech Republic’s National Supercomputing Center. Job description The candidate is expected to focus on numerical analysis of partial differential equations and/or on implementation of numerical algorithms in a high performance computing environment. In particular, we looking for a person who will use our existing results (well founded advanced mathematical models for complex processes in continuum thermodynamics, mathematical analysis of partial differential equations) to maximum advantage in the development of numerical algorithms applicable in high performance computing environment and/or abstract mathematical analysis partial differential equations. The candidate is also expected to teach specialised courses in the relevant fields.
Your profile
