The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Wesleyan University invites applications for the Edward Burr Van Vleck Postdoctoral Fellow in Mathematics, to begin in Fall 2022. The appointment will run from September 1, 2022 until June 30, 2023, and may be renewed for up to two additional years. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in mathematics or related field in hand by the time of appointment to be hired as a Van Vleck Visiting Assistant Professor; a successful candidate may be hired as a Van Vleck Visiting Instructor if the candidate does not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, but will complete the Ph.D.in mathematics or related field within one year of hire. Candidates must possess, or be close to completing, a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, and must have strong records in teaching. Teaching duties will be two courses in one semester and one in the other semester.

Wesleyan University is a leading liberal arts school with approximately 3000 students, located in Middletown, Connecticut, halfway between Boston and New York and also halfway between Hartford and New Haven. The university has graduate programs leading to doctoral and master's degrees in the sciences and ethnomusicology. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science awards the Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, and the M.A. degrees in Mathematics as well as Computer Science. There are fourteen mathematicians and seven computer scientists in the department, as well as approximately seventeen graduate students. The low student to faculty ratio ensures close contact between faculty and graduate students. Wesleyan values both scholarship and teaching very highly as well as its strong, diverse undergraduate student body.
