 The Department of Mathematics and Economics at Virginia State University is seeking  well-qualified candidates for a tenure-track Associate/Full Professor chairperson in Mathematics/Statistics with an appointment date of Fall 2022. 

 



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Chair will serve as the chief administrative officer of the Department of Mathematics and Economics, and, as such, is expected to provide positive leadership across all facets of the department missions as well as participate in research and teaching activities.  The primary responsibilities for this leadership position include; recruitment, mentoring, development, evaluation and promotion of faculty members; coordination, fairness and oversight of major departmental responsibilities; fostering linkage with external groups to strengthen ties with industry, state, federal, and local agencies; cultivate the departmental strategic plan for assessment, instruction, research, and service; and overall supervision of department staff, resources and the budget. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSCandidate must possess a terminal degree (Ph.D.) in Mathematics or Statistics and warranting an appointment as a tenured associate/full professor in the department. Candidate must have an established record of excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in Mathematics and/or Statistics. The successful applicant should be able to provide evidence of records of research, grantsmanship and potential for administration. The appointed individual also must possess excellent oral and written communications skills, experience in teaching and working with persons of culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds.   

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSAdministrative experience, including direct supervision of faculty, staff, budgets, and program development, and accomplishments.  Preference will also be given to individuals who can provide evidence of experience in supervising research and in developing modern teaching pedagogy to students at all levels of academic ability.
