Nazareth College invites accomplished leaders with technology sector experience to join the Institute for Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Society (ITAS), a pioneering new initiative in Rochester, NY. Launched in 2021, the mission of ITAS is to build on Nazareth’s highly regarded, integrative approach to liberal arts and professional education to develop a pipeline of students well-prepared to help shape a future tech sector that embodies ethics, inclusion, and social justice. We seek a director to help chart this exciting path forward. This is a tenure-eligible position open to applicants from any applicable academic discipline and of any rank.

At the heart of ITAS are innovative, interdisciplinary academic programs coupled with direct connections to the public and private sectors through experiential learning, internships, research opportunities, and senior capstone projects. The ITAS Director will provide strategic vision for establishing the institute as a leader in educating, debating, and advancing solutions for the ethical design, development, and deployment of technologies in society and at work. Central to our vision is a director with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice as they intersect with the use of advanced technologies, with a particular emphasis on algorithms, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

Operationally, the ITAS Director will be responsible for leading external relationship-building at the local, regional, and national levels to develop strategic partnerships, cultivate donors, and leverage experiential learning opportunities in the public, private, and non-governmental sectors. On campus, the ITAS Director will manage initiatives to increase undergraduate enrollment in three current majors: Technology, AI, and Society B.A. degree; Ethical Data Science B.S. degree; and Business, AI, and Innovation B.S. degree. Further, in collaboration with ITAS affiliated faculty, academic deans, administrative leadership, and internal staff partners, the director will develop and lead planning for future innovative graduate degree and non-credit programs that are relevant to the public/private sector and grounded in Nazareth’s social justice mission and legacy.

Required Education: Terminal degree in relevant discipline

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Prior administrative experience. Demonstrated experience in a private, public, and/or non-governmental sector role leading technical products, services/programs, and/or research teams guided by ethical practices related to data privacy, accessibility, civic integrity, and/or other social justice concerns is highly preferred.
