Opportunity to teach at a leading Center of Actuarial Excellence as a Visiting Professor of Actuarial Science & Risk Management at Drake University. This is a full-time role (starting in August of 2022) that would place the right candidate on a high-performance faculty team focused on teaching and scholarship as well as service to the actuarial science profession.

The duties of this position include teaching a range of courses supporting the School of Actuarial Science & Risk Management (SoASRM), including courses related to actuarial science, insurance, and finance. We are looking for a candidate with an existing research record, as well as clear evidence that the candidate will continue to publish in actuarial journals.

Successful candidates will present evidence of teaching effectiveness. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities for the university, college, program, and profession. Service related to the SoASRM may include advising students and student organizations, developing curricula, and outreach to the local insurance community.

An earned Doctorate degree or foreign equivalent in actuarial science is required and closely related fields will be considered from an accredited university. Those near completion (ABD) will be considered. Relevant actuarial credentials are welcome, but not essential. Candidates should also demonstrate evidence of teaching effectiveness. Selection will depend on the receipt of recommendation confirming the candidate’s teaching abilities and/or on the candidate’s satisfactory passing a teaching demonstration if selected for an on-campus interview.

The College of Business and Public Administration at Drake University serves over 800 undergraduate students and over 500 graduate students with nearly 50 full-time faculty members. The college has strong ties with the local community and more than 90% of students have at least one internship experience during their program. The Actuarial Science & Risk Management department currently has five full-time faculty members.

Drake University is a private, comprehensive university dedicated to high quality teaching. It is located in Des Moines, Iowa, an insurance and financial center with a metropolitan population over 500,000. Enrollment is selective and limited to approximately 5,500 students in the schools and colleges of the University. Founded in 1881, Drake University has been on the approved list of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools since 1913. The CBPA is accredited by the AACSB and offers strong undergraduate programs with over 1,000 students pursuing bachelor’s degrees in one or more of the College’s 10 majors. The actuarial science program holds the Center of Actuarial Excellence designation given by the Society of Actuaries. The CBPA’s graduate program offers four degrees to over 500 graduate students: Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Data Analytics Leadership (MDAL), and Master of Accounting (MAcc).
