Job summary

We are looking for creative, committed and collaborative colleagues who will join our recently established Mathematics team based in Dubai. You will support our first cohort of postgraduate taught students on the new MSc Financial Mathematics programme starting in September 2022. To further the development and delivery of this exciting new programme, we wish to recruit two new education-focused staff members by July 2022. We are particularly seeking applications from candidates who can support teaching and research projects in financial mathematics, mathematical optimisation, or applied statistics.

The University of Birmingham’s School of Mathematics is one of the UK’s best mathematical sciences departments with an outstanding reputation in research, teaching, and student experience. We have a longstanding tradition of delivering excellence in our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes through research-led and small group teaching, with a particular emphasis on fostering a supportive, inclusive and welcoming learning community for all staff and students. We are committed to working across our campuses in Birmingham and Dubai and at our Joint Institute with Jinan University in Guangzhou, China, to meet our linked education and research ambitions and to operate as one School in three locations.

Colleagues joining us will be expected to make a significant contribution to the advancement of teaching (policy, practice, standards) within the mathematical sciences, and to provide leadership in teaching and learning, and teaching innovation. Management and administration will involve coordinating and supporting activity on the Dubai campus with extensive support from, and collaboration with, colleagues in our School based in Edgbaston.

Across all your activities we will encourage academic citizenship, developing and maintaining generous, mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all staff and students, and ensuring the way you carry out your role impacts positively on how others can carry out theirs.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Prof Chris Good (email c.good@bham.ac.uk).
