Position Description:

*** this position has been closed. ***

The Ndeffo Lab has a position available for a postdoctoral associate, who will be based at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University. The position focuses on mathematical/computational modeling of mosquito borne diseases. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and experienced candidate to join our research team.

Research projects will address important and timely questions in public and global health. These include among others: (1) understanding local heterogeneity in mosquito-borne diseases, (2) evaluating the role and contribution of human behavior and mobility to disease transmission, and (3) optimization of novel and existing control/prevention measures. Potential projects may focus on flaviviruses transmission dynamics and control, or modeling genetics-based strategies for the control of flaviviruses.

The candidate should have research experience with modeling infectious diseases dynamics. This should include development, parameterization/calibration, and validation of data-driven mathematical/computational models of infectious disease dynamics. Desirable modeling expertise include stochastic simulations or agent-based modeling. The candidate should have demonstrably strong programming skills in Python and at least one of the following packages (R, MATLAB), and the ability to work independently and execute research projects with minimal supervision. Good communication skills demonstrated by past productivity including peer- reviewed publications and/or other scientific and technical output is required for the position. Prior experience with vector-borne disease modeling will be a plus.

Review of applications will begin immediately, and the position will remain open until filled. The expected start date is September 2022 or earlier. The position is initially available for one year, renewable based on availability of funds. A competitive salary will be commensurate with experience. The position comes with a standard benefits package available at Texas A&M University. Cost of living in College Station, TX, is relatively low.

Applications should include a CV, statement of research interests, copies of recent publications (relevant to the position), the contact of two references and be e-mailed as a single pdf file to m.ndeffo@tamu.edu. Only selected applicants will be contacted. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
