SUMMARY 
The Associate Publisher directs and oversees all editorial and acquisitions activity of the Society’s publishing program for books. Responsibilities include acquiring books, coordinating the work of book acquisition editors, and working collaboratively with the Publisher, with editorial boards for books and with AMS co-publication partners. The Publisher, the Associate Publisher, the Journals Director, and the Associate Executive Director, Publishing, form a strategic partnership to serve the AMS scholarly publication program, the worldwide research community, and the mathematical publishing community.

RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Work closely with the Publisher to develop Editorial Department yearly operating and budget plans. 
  • Provide leadership in setting scientific and editorial standards for books. 
  • Participate in development of strategic plans for book acquisitions activities. 
  • Analyze and enhance current AMS publishing practices, and foster new initiatives consistent with strategic planning. 
  • Oversight and supervision of contract book acquisition editors and administrative support staff. 
  • Supervise and develop book acquisitions efforts. 
  • Achieve book acquisition targets. 
  • Ensure efficient delivery of new book projects throughout the year to meet annual targets. 
  • Work collaboratively with AMS book series editorial committees.
  • Work closely with potential and existing book authors to ensure positive interactions with staff.

  • PhD in mathematical sciences, higher education, or related fields. 
  • Must possess demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Experience working in scholarly publishing desirable. 
  • Previous editorial and administrative experience desirable. 
  • A thorough understanding of the academic purpose and mission that guides society publishing. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS
  • Occasional travel is required 
  • This position is required to be in-office with remote potential
