Summary:

The Visiting Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, Mathematics is a 9-month full-time faculty member in the School of Sciences with responsibilities for teaching and service to the department. In accordance with the University's faculty workload policy and the School of the Sciences Fulltime Faculty Job Description, teaching responsibilities include 30 contact hours per academic year and will include teaching foundational and introductory math courses.

Education/Experience:

Master's Degree or higher in Mathematics or a related field, plus two or more years of experience teaching at the undergraduate level and commitment to quality teaching.



Knowledge/Skills/Ability:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and documented expertise in the teaching of Mathematics.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and with various learning styles, preparation and abilities.
  • Knowledge of and experience with inclusive teaching practices.
  • Student-centered approach to teaching, and a commitment to student achievement.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with students, peers, and professional contacts.
  • Familiarity with educational assessment practices.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated team-building ability.
  • Excellent organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to integrity, excellence, learning, and community.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience working with Blackboard or a similar course delivery platform.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.




Physical Requirements:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Daily work with computers, monitors, copy machines and other office equipment is required. Close visual acuity. Position requires sitting for long periods of time and the ability to speak clearly and effectively for an extended period of time. Position requires additional hours for meetings and events, including occasional evenings and weekends.



Essential Functions:

Instructional Activity
  • Prepare courses in accordance with published faculty workload guidelines.
  • Provide feedback to students via assignments and exams graded in a timely manner.
  • Meet with students as related to instructional activity.
  • Evaluate, update, and revise courses regularly.
  • Participate in the assessment activities of the Department, School, and University.
  • Every faculty member is guaranteed academic freedom in accordance with the statement on academic freedom and responsibilities of faculty members, as in the policy manuals.
  • Collegiality, as well as professional and ethical conduct, enhances teaching, learning and the general reputation of all persons in the academy. Therefore, all faculty members are expected to serve in a collegial fashion and in accordance with professional and ethical principles when dealing with other faculty members, students, administrators, and members of the public.
  • Follow all faculty and program policies outlined by the School and the University.
