The Pomona College Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position, to begin July 2022 (second year contingent upon performance). Candidates with a Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, or related fields are welcome to apply.

The teaching load is the equivalent of five semester-long undergraduate courses a year and includes the direction of senior-thesis research projects. We seek candidates who are committed to excellence in teaching and research, and who are excited about mentoring and supervising undergraduate research. As part of our drive towards inclusive excellence in the classroom, the department seeks to create a supporting community for all students. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to and success in higher education.

Pomona College is a highly selective residential liberal arts college located 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. It is the founding member of the Claremont Colleges, a consortium of seven institutions with over forty active mathematicians. Fifty-two percent of our current cohort of first-year students (class of 2023) self-identify as domestic students of color, 11% international and 19% are first generation college students. Pomona College is an equal opportunity employer and invites applications from women and members of underrepresented groups.

A complete application includes a cover letter, curriculum vitae, graduate transcripts, three or more letters of recommendation (at least one of which evaluates teaching), a description (for the non-specialist) of research plans and accomplishments, a statement of teaching philosophy, and a diversity statement.
