I. Position Information:

Title: Assistant/Associate Professor of Mathematics

School: Natural Sciences and Mathematics

Full-Time Yes

Classification: Faculty, Exempt

II. Reporting Relationship:

This position reports to the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences and

Mathematics.

III. Position Summary:

This position is a full time (100%) lecturer position for a 9-month

appointment period (non-tenure track) with opportunities for summer

sessions’ additional teaching duties. The appointment is renewable

annually. The responsibilities of this position comprise teaching of

courses in mathematics, with preference for expertise in Calculus,

probability and statistics, and upper division math courses, such as,

number theory, linear algebra, and discrete mathematics. The

incumbent of this position will also be responsible for curriculum

development, mentoring of undergraduate students, institutional and

community service, and contribution to programmatic assessment. The

candidate will have an M.S. or higher terminal degree in mathematics or

related fields.

IV. Duties and Responsibilities:

Deliver 24 load hours per academic year in the in the undergraduate

degree programs. Teach at least 12 faculty load hours per semester.

Assume other duties and university service as assigned by the Dean

within the scope of the Faculty Handbook. Participate in recruiting by

the Dean, within the scope of the Faculty Handbook. Participate in

recruiting and service activities. Additional duties may include the

maintenance of laboratory equipment used for instructional purposes.

V. Qualifications:

the essential and non-essential functions of the job are not precise and

are only an approximation, which can vary on a day-to-day basis and are

subject to change on an as-needed basis and/or in the sole discretion of

supervisory management. Some holiday and weekend work may be

required.

VI. Qualifications:

Minimum Education: M.S. or higher terminal degree in

mathematics or related field from an accredited college or university

Minimum Experience: Minimum 1 year previous experience in in teaching or

training in mathematics or related courses

Skills: Computer literacy with an excellent working knowledge of

Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point); learning

management systems (e.g. CANVAS); graphic programs (e.g Microsoft

Publisher, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop); e-mail programs; and the

Internet. Knowledge and experience in using common office equipment

such as computers, printers, and scanners.

Physical Requirements: Candidate must be able to traverse the campus,

stoop, bend, climb stairs, lift approximately 10-25 lbs, and have finger

dexterity.

Desirable: Experience developing curriculum and delivering courses in a

higher education setting. Expertise in mathematics.
