Founded in 1963, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a forward-looking comprehensive research university with a global vision and a mission to combine tradition with modernity, and to bring together China and the West. The Department of Mathematics at CUHK has developed a strong reputation in teaching and research. Many of the faculty members are internationally renowned and are recipients of prestigious awards and honors.

The Center for Mathematical Artificial Intelligence (CMAI, http://cmai.math.cuhk.edu.hk/) is a newly established research center under the Department of Mathematics and Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMS) in CUHK. The CMAI provides a platform on which various research scientists from different fields and areas can carry out research with rigorous mathematics, for the development and flourishment of forefront artificial intelligence technologies. The CMAI currently has one opening for a non-tenure track Research Assistant Professorship (RAP). The CMAI is now inviting applications beginning on July 22, 2022. We seek promising young mathematicians whose expertise lies in the interface between mathematics and artificial intelligence. The applicant is expected to have a close collaboration with faculties at the CMAI to push the boundaries of deep learning’s mathematical understanding and mission-critical applications. The RAP is for a one-year duration, with possible extension. The teaching load of these appointments is light, with one course each academic year. Applicants should have (i) a relevant PhD degree; and (ii) good potential for research and teaching. The applicant is expected to assume duty as early as January 2023. Applicants should arrange at least 3 reference letters to be submitted by the reference writers. Appointments will initially be made on a contract basis for one year, renewable subject to performance and mutual agreement. The review of applications will begin on August 31, 2022, and will continue until the position is filled. There is no guarantee that applications received after this date will be reviewed.
