Job Summary:
The Department of Mathematics at Eastern Washington University (EWU) invites applications for a special faculty lecturer position with expertise in Mathematics to begin in September 2022.

The Department of Mathematics has 11 tenure-track faculty, 15 lecturers, and teaches approximately 25,000 full-time student equivalent credit hours per academic year. The primary responsibility will be to teach lower division mathematics, possibly including developmental mathematics courses.
We are seeking broadly trained candidates who will be inspirational teachers, role models, and mentors who complement the strengths of our faculty to engage in instructionally-intensive undergraduate programs. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching. Candidates must show a high degree of interest in human and cultural diversity with a demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach to teaching and scholarship that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public. Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in curriculum development and assessment of student learning.
The candidate hired into the position will receive a one-year contract. Appointment for additional years is dependent on program need, availability of funding, and evidence of successful teaching at EWU.
Teaching responsibilities include 45 credits per academic year, teaching lower division mathematics, possibly including developmental mathematics courses. Requirements for this position include a Master's degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, or another closely related field.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, or closely related field.
  • Two years (or equivalent) of full time teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.





Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior teaching experience in college level mathematics.
  • Interest and qualifications to teach a wide range of mathematics courses ranging from Developmental Mathematics to Calculus.

Responsibility / Duty: Teaching: typical workload includes 45 credits per academic year, teaching lower division mathematics, possibly including developmental mathematics courses. Requirements for this position include a Master’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, or another closely related field.

Teaching includes the following additional related responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:
  • Meet all scheduled classes
  • Plan, organize and inform students of the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
  • Schedule and attend office hours
  • Turn in grades according to established deadlines
  • Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning

Conditions of Employment:
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved inthe receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value;as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled,vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employmentis contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background checkprior to beginning employment.

All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR and proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before beginning work at EWU, Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.

Note: Interviews may be conducted via Zoom (camera must be enabled).While we anticipate being open for in-person instruction for academic year2022-23, should Washington State or university pandemic restrictionsdisallow for in-person instruction, then courses will be taught via onlineplatforms, including Zoom and other technologies. Candidates must be ableto demonstrate competence using these technologies.
Salary Information: The expected salary upon hire is $54,403.
