A probationary tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor is available in the Department of Computer Science in the College of Arts and Sciences. The department seeks a dynamic candidate who is committed to teaching excellence and to maintaining an active research program involving undergraduates. This appointment carries an initial two-year probationary appointment beginning with the 2023/2024 academic year, August 21, 2023. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in computer science or closely related discipline before August 21, 2023. The successful applicant will present evidence of an ability for teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, and demonstrate an ability to teach a variety of courses in the computer science curriculum. The successful applicant will also present evidence of the potential to establish a scholarship program that can engage undergraduates in research. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The Department is especially interested in applicants who bring diverse perspectives to the University, and in those who may be especially effective in mentoring students who are members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in the discipline. DUTIES: Teach courses in the Department of Computer Science based on program needs and in accordance with specialization; participate in research and scholarly activities; engage undergraduates in the high impact practice of research; engage in service to the department, university, and profession. DEPARTMENT: The Department of Computer Science has about 300 majors and has active undergraduate research and internship programs. Professors and undergraduate majors are involved in both disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborative research supported internally through the Center of Excellence for Faculty and Undergraduate Student Research Collaboration and the Blugold Center for High Performance Computing, and externally through programs such as the UW-EC/Mayo Clinic Research Partnership and the Blugold Biomedical Innovator Program.
