About This Role:

The Department of Mathematics at Lamar University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning in the Fall 2023 semester. Applicants should have an earned PhD in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or Statistics prior to the start date. These faculty will support, participate in, and enhance the current Master's of Science in Mathematics degree program, as well as teach courses for undergraduate majors and engineering majors.

We seek candidates with plans for continuing scholarly activity that include publication of research papers in peer-reviewed conferences and journals and/or submission of grants and contract proposals to various funding agencies. Faculty of Lamar University are also expected to participate in service opportunities at the department, college, and university levels (e.g. advising students, serving as mentors to students, participating in committees). Finally, candidates should be prepared to teach any combination of courses in the undergraduate curricula in mathematics and teach master's courses. Tenure-stream faculty in the Department of Mathematics have a maximum teaching load of 12 credit-hours per semester. Faculty conducting research can apply for a reduced load of 9 credit-hours per semester. The initial salary will be commensurate with experience.

The College of Arts and Sciences include some 220 faculty, 100 staff members and houses approximately 5,000 majors. The College is comprised of twelve academic departments, many of which house multiple programs and disciplines. In addition, the College includes a variety of interdisciplinary, pre-professional, and teacher preparation programs that cross educational boundaries. While providing a majority of the courses included within the university's Core Curriculum, the College likewise offers hundreds of specialized courses to support its baccalaureate and graduate degree programs.

Located in the Lucas Building on the Lamar University campus, the Department of Mathematics has twelve tenured faculty members and nine full-time instructors. The department offers a full range of courses in pure and applied mathematics, statistics, and provides support for students pursuing degrees in elementary and secondary school certification. The programs in the Department of Mathematics include a B.S. and B.A. degrees in Mathematics, and M.S. degree in Mathematics. Degree programs provide flexibility of course selection, according to a student's career path. Advising is integral to success and, consequently, faculty members assist with scheduling and career planning throughout students' undergraduate and graduate years.
