The Computer Science program at Denison University invites applications for multiple tenure track faculty positions at open rank to begin in August 2023. Candidates are required to have a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field by the start date. (ABD will be considered as Instructor until PhD is attained). We are seeking energetic and dynamic teachers who are committed to teaching a variety of courses in the CS core curriculum and creating new electives that complement our existing offerings. Candidates should be dedicated to teaching in a liberal arts setting, mentoring undergraduate students, and supervising their research projects. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the continued growth of the department and the college and maintain a strong scientific research record of peer-reviewed publications in any CS specialty or related field.

Computer Science at Denison attracts about a hundred total majors. In addition, our courses support a growing number of other majors and concentrations. We will soon be moving to a newly renovated building designed with departmental input in the heart of Denison’s academic quad.

Denison’s BA and BS degrees in CS emphasize core principles and interdisciplinary connections. We embrace interdisciplinarity especially in our introductory course, which we offer in a variety of "flavors," each with project work in a different domain. Current offerings focus on applications in the sciences and social sciences and faculty are encouraged to design new flavors to encourage broader engagement with Computer Science. We also encourage interdisciplinarity in our electives, recent examples of which include Computational Biology, Artificial Intelligence, and Game Design; future elective offerings could include CS+X courses co-taught with faculty in non-CS fields.

Denison offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package; for more details, please see the faculty handbook hosted at http://denison.edu/forms/faculty-handbook. In addition, Denison supports research and teaching with professional development funds of $5,000 per year for the first three years, and $3,000 per year thereafter as well as startup funds. Pending a successful third year review, junior faculty are also entitled to a one semester leave. The current CS teaching load is 9 courses every 2 years (i.e., faculty typically teach a 2-2-2-3 load over four semesters).

Denison University is an academically rigorous liberal arts college with an increasingly diverse campus community. Denison is located in the village of Granville, 30 minutes from Columbus, Ohio, the state capital, which hosts a wide range of cultural and artistic opportunities. Granville also offers an excellent public school system and easy access to outdoor activities.

To apply, please submit the following required information online at http://apply.interfolio.com/109002:

– a cover letter that addresses your interest in the liberal arts and Denison in particular, and how you envision your research and teaching interests contributing to the department and university – a curriculum vita – transcripts of graduate work (unofficial acceptable for applications) – a statement on your teaching philosophy, experience, and effectiveness – evidence of effective teaching, including teaching materials and evaluations (if available, upload to additional documents) – a statement on your current and future research program – a statement about diversity and inclusion: describe your interests, experiences, and future plans for promoting diversity and inclusion in Computer Science (1-2 pages) – 3 references, at least 1 of which must address your teaching effectiveness or potential

We will begin reviewing applications on a rolling basis on October 10, 2022. We welcome applications received after this date and will evaluate them as they arrive.
