Applications are invited for a Lectureship in Mathematical Analysis in the School of Mathematics at Cardiff University. This is a full-time, open-ended post starting on 1 January 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The appointment will be in any area of Mathematical Analysis.

Applicants for the post should have a record of, or potential to produce, research that reaches the highest standards of excellence in terms of originality, significance and rigour in Mathematics. They should have the ability to deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They will also be expected to take a full part in the life of the School, including administrative duties.

Candidates must have a PhD in Mathematics or a closely related discipline.

Mathematical Analysis at Cardiff

The new appointment will be within the Mathematical Analysis group, which currently has eleven regular faculty members, one Emeritus and several postdocs/fellows. The interests of the group include:

  • asymptotic and variational methods for nonlinear PDEs, in particular homogenisation;
  • combinatorial and analytic number theory, and special functions;
  • geometric and stochastic partial differential equations;
  • kinetic theory of PDEs;
  • spectral theory and quantum mechanics;
  • applications including inverse problems, medical genetics and scaling limits for particle system.

We will give serious consideration to outstanding candidates in any area of mathematical analysis. Ideal candidates will bring an interesting new direction to the group and will also be able to interact scientifically with our existing members.

The group holds weekly seminars with speakers from the UK and abroad, and frequently organises international conferences and programmes. We also have a regular stream of international visitors, which have included recent Fields Medallists and ICM speakers.

This position is a full-time position, 35 hours per week and is open ended.
Salary range: £35,333 - £42,155 per annum (Grade 6)
