The Wu Tsai Institute (WTI) at Yale University seeks outstanding computational candidates for multiple endowed faculty positions, at any rank. We encourage researchers with a background in applied math, computer science, data science, engineering, or related fields to apply if they have research experience or interests at the interface of neuroscience and computational modeling, in particular AI and machine learning. This confluence is on the critical path for WTI to advance our understanding of the mind and brain. We are building a vibrant community where theorists and experimentalists work closely together, exploring new mathematical, computational, and biological frameworks to unlock the secrets of cognition. We are committed to enabling deeply interdisciplinary and collaborative research through innovative facilities and programs, evolving beyond the traditional academic model of single-lab science. Successful candidates will receive a tenure-track or tenured appointment in one or more departments in the Yale Faculty of Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering and Applied Science, and/or School of Medicine. Background: WTI was founded in 2021 by a historic gift from Joe Tsai and Clara Wu Tsai with the mission to understand human cognition and explore human potential by sparking interdisciplinary inquiry. WTI is built on three organizational pillars that coordinate research activities: Centers for Neurocomputation and Machine Intelligence, Neurodevelopment and Plasticity, and Neurocognition and Behavior. WTI drives interdisciplinary inquiry through fellowships for co-mentored postdocs, grad students, and undergrads; shared facilities and services with cutting-edge technologies, including new high-performance computing clusters; collaborative grants to nucleate transformative ideas and events; and a new home at 100 College Street in New Haven, opening Summer 2023. WTI is creating an inclusive culture that confronts inequity and celebrates diverse backgrounds, identities, and perspectives. The deadline for candidates in computational areas is December 15, 2022. |
