| The Department of Mathematics at PUC-Rio welcomes applications for tenure-track and tenured positions. The successful candidate can start as early as March 2023, but a later start date is also possible (e.g., August 2023). Applicants should have a Ph.D. in mathematics (or in a related area), good research credentials and a strong commitment to teaching. The regular teaching load consists of eight hours per week distributed among basic courses (for example linear algebra, calculus), more advanced mathematics major courses, and graduate level courses. After one year, the candidate is expected to take part in administrative activities. PUC-Rio provides excellent working conditions: a well located and pleasant campus, good students, research grants, a solid retirement plan, health insurance, and salary increments related to age and performance. The annual salary as of 2022 consists of 13 equal installments each of which ranges between R$13,157.00 (for a beginner Assistant Professor) and R$ 15,815.00 (for an Associate Professor). For 2023, the installments are foreseen to increase by 7.8%, being then between R$14,183.24 and R$17,048.57. The contract will follow the University rules and will be subjected to the evaluation of the Math Department Career Commission. According to these regulations, the professor will have a trial period, which normally lasts three years.
Required skills:
1) Ph.D in mathematics (Ph.D in similar fields can be, eventually, considered).
2) Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Mathematics.
3) Ability to supervise undergraduate and graduate students in Mathematics.
4) Research production of international level, in a quantity compatible with the date of the candidate’s Ph.D.
