Assistant Professor - Actuarial Science

Position Description

The Department of Mathematical Sciences within the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Actuarial Science.

Successful candidates will have an outstanding record of research excellence in the field with strong likelihood of funded grants from federal agencies; a commitment to effective and engaging teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels; and a commitment to mentoring students in the respective programs.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD (or equivalent) in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Risk Management, or a closely related field, and should also have actuarial credentials, such as an Associate or a Fellow of a professional actuarial organization. All candidates should demonstrate their commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service, which includes a strong commitment to principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. All candidates are expected to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals of diverse backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. The appointment commences in fall 2023. A doctoral degree is required prior to joining; those with ABD status will be considered at the application/interviewing stage.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences

The University of Texas at Dallas is a rapidly growing university with ambitious plans to advance in education and research. The Department of Mathematical Sciences has active research programs in several areas of Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, and Actuarial Science. It has 33 tenure-stream faculty, and offers the following degree programs: BA, BS, MS and PhD in Mathematics, BS in Data Science, MS and PhD in Statistics, BS and MS in Actuarial Science, MS in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, plus Undergraduate and Graduate Certificates in Data Science.
