Academic Professional The School of Mathematics (SoM) at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for at least one Academic Professional position in mathematics, with an anticipated start date in early to mid 2023. These positions are non-tenure-track 12-month faculty appointments, and are subject to annual evaluation. Georgia Tech has recently adapted its academic professional appointments in alignment with its commitment to high quality education and training at all levels. SoM has an excellent track record in supporting our Academic Professionals in their career advancement. The role of Academic Professionals is vital to advancing our undergraduate teaching in the School and supporting our educational and training missions through academic administration. The position includes teaching assignments each semester along with administrative support of our programs. Academic Professionals in the School of Mathematics have typically been assigned duties from the following: a. teaching 1-2 courses per semester, including the summer; these courses will usually be selected from our 1000- or 2000-level offerings, and/or from other teaching commitments including pre-calculus, distance learning, and international programs; b. administrative support for undergraduate and/or graduate teaching, in the form of advising, scheduling, course coordination, curation of materials, facilitation of use of technology for both in-person and online courses, and/or support for curriculum improvements; c. participation in the School’s instructional management team; d. contribute to the institutional goal of creating a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive culture. Design new curricular initiatives to invite students into the major; e. other duties assigned in alignment with the School’s needs and individuals’ strengths. These may be selected from the following: support for integration of technology in courses, administration, assessment, and innovative curricula; oversight and delivery of online courses; coordination with faculty on delivery of course tracking and collecting data in support of School programs; support for curriculum development and use of innovative teaching techniques; participation in the registration team; outreach to high schools and coordination of outreach events. This list is likely to evolve together with future needs and priorities of the School of Mathematics and of Georgia Tech. The successful candidates will have demonstrated excellent teaching credentials, with clear potential for taking on considerable responsibility in teaching, educational leadership, and administrative tasks. Candidates will possess attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work well with faculty, staff, students, as well as the broader university community. Experience with technology in teaching, high quality delivery of online courses, and administration will be considered a plus. One or more years of experience in a university environment, and a Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field, such as physics or computer science, is required for this position.
