The Department of Mathematical Sciences at New Mexico State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment to be filled at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall, 2023. This position is part of a cohort of five tenure-track faculty across the university that will build on and expand NMSU’s existing strengths in STEM education research. Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics prior to Spring 2024 and will not only contribute to enhancing NMSU’s research profile, but who will also work to enhance success of students in STEM areas and contribute to increase diversity among the STEM workforce, ensuring equity and fostering inclusion. Expected duties include undergraduate teaching, sustained research, submission of competitive external funding proposals, and some university service.

Required qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in Mathematics by Spring 2024
  • Active in Mathematics Education research and/or a strong interest in broadening participation in Mathematics
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience working with groups which are underrepresented in STEM and knowledge about challenges in broadening participation in STEM
  • A demonstrated commitment to students’ success
  • Experience with grant writing
  • Understanding of the mission of a land grant, Minority Serving and Hispanic Serving institution
