The Department of Mathematics seeks applicants throughout the year who are interested in obtaining postdoctoral research experience in the area of mathematics. These positions have the responsibility to conduct a program of research under the mentorship of a faculty research group within the department. A teaching load of up to 3 courses per year, as assigned by the department chair, is expected, depending upon funding source. Applicants should identify a faculty member(s) of interest for collaboration in their cover letter.

All research areas in the department are sought. In addition, because of future grant funding, the department has particular interest in: (a) Data Science, Optimization and Machine Learning (candidates for this position may have backgrounds in any area of mathematics, or related area), with collaborations, training, and mentoring developing between mathematical data scientists and industrial or governmental partners; (b) applied analysis related to integrable pdes and (c) inverse problems, especially electrical impedance tomography (candidates with backgrounds in optimization and inverse problems are encouraged to apply; (d) Mathematics Education creating and implementing embodied activities to use with undergraduate mathematics students. Some of the creations will entail 3-D printing. The candidate will assist with data collection, analysis, and interpretation as well co-authoring manuscripts. The postdoctoral fellow will engage in interdisciplinary collaborations with external members of the Embodied Mathematical Imagination and Cognition (EMIC) community which includes cognitive scientists, psychologists, and STEM educators. The candidate will also engage with the Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education (RUME) community; (e) Radar signal processing and tracking. The postdoctoral fellow will work with a team including Prof. Margaret Cheney and colleagues in ECE, and will help develop fast algorithms and implement them on a GPU.
