We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate with a background in number theory, to work alongside Professor James Newton at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford. The position is full time, and fixed-term for two years. We anticipate a starting date of the start of the academic year 2023-24.

The successful candidate will conduct research in number theory as part of the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship “Reciprocity, functoriality and the p-adic Langlands programme”. Relevant areas of expertise include Galois representations and automorphic forms, p-adic automorphic forms and arithmetic geometry. The precise research topics to be investigated can be tailored to the post-holder’s prior experience and interests. They will have the opportunity to write up their results for publication and represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, whilst also managing their own academic research and administrative activities.

Applicants will be expected to have, or be close to completing, a PhD in mathematics or a related discipline. They will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline, and be able to demonstrate an excellent track record of research in the area, appropriate to career stage. They will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publications and present research proposals and results, and be able to manage their own academic research and associated activities.
