The Department of Mathematics at the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María invites applications for a tenure track position in Valparaíso (Campus Casa Central), Chile, to ideally begin on March 1st, 2023. The minimum requirement for applicants is a Ph.D. degree in mathematics or statistics (upon commencing employment), teaching experience at undergraduate level, and advanced language skills in Spanish and English. Priority will be given to applications from candidates working in areas related to - Algebraic Geometry - Control of PDE and Inverse Problems - Dynamical Systems - Nonlinear Analysis of PDE - Numerical Analysis - Optimization - Statistics The starting salary is fixed according to academic evaluation and increases every year according to Chilean law, and includes health insurance and pension fund contributions. The university offers startup funding to support the candidate’s research during the first year of tenure-track. Additionally, most funding projects existing in Chile also provide extra salary for academics and incentives can also be obtained by publishing articles in indexed journals and by excellence in teaching. The typical teaching load for an active researcher is three semester-long courses a year, at the graduate or undergraduate level, which usually means 119 hours per year in total.
