The Computer Science department at The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University (CSB and SJU) invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track positions to begin in August 2023.

We welcome applications from all areas of computer science, as well as areas that cross-disciplinary boundaries. The teaching load is three courses per semester. The successful candidate will share responsibility for introductory and intermediate level courses, teach advanced courses in their area of specialization, and encourage student involvement in their research. Rank and salary commensurate with experience. The department currently includes six faculty members, a scientist-in-residence and a lab manager. The department is housed in newly-renovated facilities with dedicated learning spaces that are managed by our lab manager and maintained by IT Services which provides extensive educational and system administration support for the department. We offer a major and minor in Computer Science and collaborate with other departments on a major in Data Science and minor in Data Analytics. For the past two years, we have been graduating around 40 majors annually. The College of Saint Benedict (CSB), a liberal arts college for women, and Saint John's University (SJU), a liberal arts college for men, are located in the central lakes area of Minnesota, surrounded by more than 3,000 acres of pristine forests, prairies, and lakes. The two institutions maintain separate residential campuses and budgets. However, we have a fully integrated, joint academic program with identical degree requirements and academic calendars. CSB and SJU students take classes together on both campuses from our joint faculty body. The campuses are minutes away from St. Cloud, an increasingly diverse regional center with a population of over 100,000, and 70 miles from Minneapolis and St. Paul. Some CSB and SJU faculty and staff choose to reside locally, while others commute from the Twin Cities. Both St. Cloud and the Twin Cities offer a wide range of fine arts, cultural, dining, recreational, and sporting opportunities. Responsibilities This position carries a standard teaching load of 6 courses per year (3 per semester). The Computer Science department offers a lab-based curriculum where first-year and second-year courses are taught with associated labs staffed with faculty members who receive teaching credit for supervising labs; this results in a typical teaching load of 2 courses plus proctoring labs (equivalent to one course) per semester. In addition to teaching, faculty members are expected to:

advise students to help them plan and integrate educational and career choices, conduct and publish scholarly and/or creative work (the department recognizes and values scholarship and creative work in various domains, including computing education), and contribute to the governance of their department and the institution by engaging in department and eventually faculty committee service. Qualifications Required:

Doctorate/ABD in Computer Science or a closely-related discipline OR a Master's in Computer Science and Doctorate/ABD in another discipline (completion of doctorate required for tenure) Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education Demonstrated commitment to scholarship at an undergraduate liberal arts institution Willingness to work collaboratively, such as on class and lab design Experience in or demonstrated interest in working with students from diverse backgrounds. Preferred: All areas in Computer Science are welcome, with preference given to candidates interested in and able to teach a wide range of courses throughout the curriculum to majors as well as non-majors and to mentor student research.
