Position Description

The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SMSS) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Algebra beginning 09/01/2023, subject to funding availability. Full consideration will be given to applicants with an active research program in Algebra or related fields, who can teach upper-level courses in Algebra and advise undergraduate and graduate students in research work. The selected finalists are expected to establish independent research programs that successfully attract extramural funding, actively contribute to departmental development, and engage in innovative teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels. Candidates for this position are expected to strengthen and complement our Ph.D. program. We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s diverse student body as an Assistant Professor of School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics at the time of appointment with demonstrated potential for research productivity and extramural funding.  Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Mathematics with concentration in Algebra or related fields. Applications are encouraged from those with backgrounds in areas including Algebraic Number Theory, Algebraic Combinatorics, Group Theory, Representation Theory, Coding Theory, Set Theory and Logic. We will also consider very strong candidates in other areas of Pure Mathematics. Postdoctoral experience is encouraged. Documented teaching excellence and externally funded research may be given preference in the selection process.

Expertise in Algebra or related fields is required. Applicants should provide evidence of or strong potential for significant productivity in research. Successful candidates will demonstrate potential ability to involve both undergraduate and graduate students in research activities, and a commitment to educate a diverse body of students in a Hispanic Serving Institution.
