Job Description – Full-Time Tenure-track Assistant Professor Department of Science and Mathematics Statistics

The Department of Science and Mathematics of Columbia College Chicago seeks applicants for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in Statistics with employment starting in August 2023.

The Department of Science and Mathematics invites applicants for a tenure-track position to teach introductory level, undergraduate courses in statistics and mathematics. The person hired for this role will be asked to lead an effort to develop a robust set of general education statistics courses to supplement the department’s current offerings. A Ph.D. is required and preference will be given to those with a Ph.D. in statistics or other related mathematics disciplines. The teaching load will be 3 courses per semester depending on the number of credits per course for a total of 18 credit hours per academic year.

In addition to expertise in their field, successful candidates must exhibit excellent teaching and scholarly credentials and be passionate about undergraduate and graduate education.

The School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (SLAS) is home to 300 full- and part-time faculty and staff in the departments of Science and Mathematics, American Sign Language, English and Creative Writing, and Humanities, History, and Social Sciences. SLAS departments provide the bulk of the college’s general education curriculum, known as the “Columbia Core.” SLAS offers an MFA in Creative Writing and undergraduate majors in American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, English, Creative Writing, Environmental and Sustainability Studies, and Cultural Studies, and fifteen minors such as Black World Studies, Biology, Latino and Latin American Studies, Philosophy and Religion, Professional Writing, and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

Duties & Responsibilities: • Teach at the undergraduate level in areas assigned by the Department Chair. While there are no graduate programs in SCMT, there may be opportunities to teach graduate courses in other programs. • Engage with the broader scholarly and professional communities. • Supervise and advise and mentor students. • Contribute to the development, planning and implementation of a high-quality, inclusive curriculum consistent with the Columbia College Chicago commitment to equity and social justice. • Commit to continuing professional development. • Provide service to the college, profession and community. • Actively follow and promote Columbia College Chicago policies.
