Applications are invited for one postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Mathematics at North Carolina State University. The initial term of the appointment would be for one year, with the potential for renewal of up to three years pending adequate progress and continued availability of funding.

Requirements
The applicants must have a PhD in mathematics or a closely related field (e.g., physics, mechanical engineering or computer science). We are seeking applicants with a strong background in numerical analysis and scientific computing. Particular areas of interest are randomized numerical linear algebra, Bayesian inverse problems, Uncertainty Quantification.

Research Responsibilities
The scholar will work with Prof. Arvind Saibaba (https://asaibab.math.ncsu.edu/
) on a project funded by the Department of Energy, and is joint with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Argonne National Lab. The postdoc will also be expected to collaborate with the other team members.

The postdoc is expected to support the research activities as described in the grant narrative. The overarching goal of the project is to develop randomized algorithms for optimal experimental design. The postdoc will develop and analyze new algorithms, using column subset selection and graph-based techniques (e.g, clustering, sparsification), and demonstrate their performance on a range of applications of relevance to DOE.
