Director of Quantitative Resource Center and Lecturer in Mathematics GETTYSBURG COLLEGE

Gettysburg College invites applications for a Director of a new Quantitative Resource Center beginning August 2023. The term of appointment is three years and is renewable. Applicants must have a Masters’ degree or Ph.D in a quantitative discipline, or must expect to complete all requirements for the degree by September 2023. We particularly invite applications from members of any group that has been historically underrepresented in the American academy.

A successful applicant will have the opportunity to coordinate peer learning across a range of quantitative disciplines and develop programming to help support students. They will work closely with the college’s Center for Student Success on initiatives that include the advising and placement of incoming students over the summer. The person hired will hold the faculty rank of Lecturer in Mathematics, and as such will teach up to five courses per year. These will most likely be in Calculus or Statistics, although other options may be available depending on the interests and background of the person hired.

The following are essential: (i) evidence of demonstrated success as a teacher, with clear promise of excellent, inclusive, and innovative teaching; (ii) an interest in working with a diverse group of students on peer-to-peer teaching activities outside the classroom; and (iii) demonstrated success or interest in inclusive teaching practices and a commitment to working to promote inclusive excellence and an environment in which students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds will thrive. In addition, preference will be given to candidates with (iv) an interest in working as a teacher in a liberal arts environment, (v) experience training and supervising student workers, (vi) project management skills including managing budgets or (vii) demonstrated knowledge of student learning theory and best practices in peer learning and tutoring centers, particularly with regards to diverse and underrepresented populations.
