To further enhance its academic base, the Faculty of Science is making a strategic investment in recruiting University of Bath Prize Fellows to strengthen and develop existing research excellence.

We are welcoming applications across 13 research areas, one of which is Fluid Dynamics, and will make 6 appointments.

About the Prize Fellowship

Our Prize Fellowship offer early-stage researchers the opportunity to join a cohort of like-minded rising research stars. These two-year research fellowships in our priority research areas are part of a scheme intended to fast-track fellows to a permanent appointment at Bath. Alumni of the scheme have become scientific leaders, progressing rapidly within the university to Senior Lecturer, Reader and Professor. As a University of Bath Prize Fellow you will have the opportunity to:

* Conduct high quality research as an independent researcher, including securing funding via research grants and/or fellowship applications and building a research group appropriate to the academic department and discipline; * develop international research links; * contribute to advanced undergraduate teaching and supervision, training and research of graduate students; * promote research in the discipline, including public engagement.

About you

To be considered for a Prize Fellowship at Bath you must hold PhD degree in subject area of direct relevance or be able to demonstrate equivalent significant relevant experience and professional qualification.

You will demonstrate a depth and breadth of specialist knowledge in order to contribute to research programmes and be able to show your potential to attract research funds

You will demonstrate expertise and knowledge in the latest developments in the field of research and in research design

We welcome applications from candidates across the spectrum of Fluid Dynamics either strengthening the current areas listed above or opening new directions. Potential new directions include the interface between Data Science and Fluid Dynamics (leveraging strengths in our Centre for Mathematics and Algorithms for Data).

About the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

Fluid dynamics in a mathematical context involves the spectrum from rigorous mathematics to impactful applications. This full spectrum is represented and well-integrated at Bath where the area is world leading and encompasses researchers across three of the six research groups in Mathematics described in the brochure.

The AIMS group has strengths in geophysical, and bio-physiological fluid dynamics, waves, asymptotic analysis, complex fluids and modelling for industrial problems. The Numerical Analysis and Data Science group has strengths in high performance computing for meteorology and simulation of complex flows. Fluid dynamics research also interfaces with substantial strengths in dynamical systems, and is well connected across the University through the interdisciplinary Centre for Nonlinear Mechanics and Centre for Mathematical Biology.

There is a strong track record of success in funding in fluid mechanics: four of our academics have current fellowships linked with fluid dynamics, complemented with recent substantial EPSRC funding.

In the Analysis group there is strength in fluid dynamics PDE theory including singularity formation and singular structures, and nonlinear elliptic problems

For an informal discussion about these roles please contact Paul Milewski, Miles Wheeler, Jennifer Tweedy.
