As teacher you will teach courses at a variety of levels, from first year undergraduate to advanced master. Master courses can be taught either at the local level or as part of the national Master programme, Mastermath. You will be involved in the supervision of Bachelor and Master theses as well as smaller scale projects. We encourage teaching innovation for which funds are available via the university to help realise your ideas.

You will play a committed role in all aspects of academic life. Ideally, your eligibility is exemplified by :

  • significant research achievements and promise for the future;
  • a track record of international publications in leading journals;
  • high potential for the acquisition of external research funds;
  • readiness to supervise postdocs and/or PhD students;
  • a committed role in (inter-)national activities in scientific and/or societal communities;
  • commitment towards teaching and student supervision;
  • the ability to teach in and develop teaching material for Bachelor's and Master's programmes in Mathematics, based on an in-depth understanding of current developments in the field;
  • ideas about organising events, such as research conferences, workshops and seminars;
  • a good working knowledge of either Dutch or English and willingness to acquire a working knowledge of the other language within a reasonable amount of time. The University provides language courses to any staff member.

In view of our policy to improve the gender balance we strongly encourage women to apply.

  • The appointment is at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor according to previous experience and seniority.
  • The position has
  • A full-time gross salary ranging from € 3.974,- to € 7.362,- in scale 11-12 for assistant professor and 13-14 for associate professor;
  • 8% holiday bonus and 8.3% end-of-year bonus;
  • A pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible employment conditions based on the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities.

In addition to the employment conditions from the CAO for Dutch Universities, Utrecht University has a number of its own arrangements. These include agreements on professional development, leave arrangements and sports. At the Faculty of Science, there are 6 departments to make a fundamental connection with: Biology, Chemistry, Information and Computing Sciences, Mathematics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Physics. Each of these is made up of distinct institutes that work together to focus on answering some of humanity’s most pressing problems. More fundamental still are the individual research groups – the building blocks of our ambitious scientific projects. For an impression, watch working at the Faculty of Science.

The Mathematical Institute of the Department of Mathematics currently comprises about 10 Full Professors, 20 further faculty members, 25 PhD candidates and 10 Postdocs.

The Institute organises and teaches the Bachelor's curriculum in Mathematics as well as the (English-taught) Master's programme in Mathematics and some service teaching in mathematics.
